A little history in Idaho

It’s been a while since I posted but that’s because, as my wife puts it, I am single-mindedly focused on WALKING!
So many kind and generous people along Highway 2 today. If I can’t name you by name, please know that I truly appreciate everyone, from those who have hosted me for a night to those who run out and hand me a Gatorade!
I couldn’t believe the reception I received coming into Bonners Ferry today. Word gets around in a small town…and with a little help from Facebook, I’ve been told.
Bonners is near to our hearts. We almost made it our home in the early 1990s. We bought some acreage up there and have great memories of falling 40-foot tamaracks, peeling bark by hand, stacking the logs for our home, and all our children each bringing a friend along for the summer visits. One summer we dug a pit to roast some chickens, and the river rocks exploded in the pit! Too much moisture. The chickens were delicious, however. Just ask all the yellow jackets that feasted on them!
Alas, we ended up in Montana, but walking past the Naples store brought back memories. That’s where we would come off the mountain to fill our six-gallon water tanks, get a needed shower, stock up on essentials and use the laundry. The owners were always friendly.
And once again Bonners Ferry has proved to be a welcome respite. I am looking forward to the community pancake breakfast tomorrow morning before I once again roll out the cart, tie my laces and start hoofing it to the border…Montana, that is.
Go east, old man!
